Efforts to systematically conduct scientific research on creativity began in the mid-nineteenth century with individual contributions from Italian psychiatrist Cesare Lombroso and English scientist and naturalist Francis Galton. However, despite these important contributions, creativity studies are not seen as a developing and productive field during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The studies that marked a turning point in the history of creativity studies were started in the 1960s. During the following years, many researchers have carried out many studies to understand the nature of creativity (Sungur, 1999).
Studies on creativity develop in three different directions. The first of these emerges as the definition of creative personality. The second has developed in relation to organizational factors. These studies are based on the question of which factors increase or hinder creativity.
The third one is for education and development. These studies ask, “Can individuals be trained to use their inner creativity? So they can be more creative?”
